This is not really related to software or marketing, but as it’s been a very long time since I’ve seen such glowing reviews for a free, online service I wanted to mention it anyway.
LibraryThing is still in Beta, but it has already attracted a huge following. The list of raving testimonials appears almost endless, and includes quotes such as “a revolutionary leap forward” and “I am in heaven!”.
In short: if you like books and reading, this is for you. You can catalogue your own books, write reviews, join groups and ask questions. But what it’s really useful for is discovering new books, as you can read countless recommendations and reviews based on what you already know that you like. It’s a little like the Amazon “you might also like”, but to the power of a zillion. Kind of.
Social bookmarking at its very finest, and you don’t even have to provide them with an email address. Just submit a username and password, and you’re ready to start.
