Everyone wants to be the new Google.

Bing want Google’s market share.

Yahoo want their advertising revenue.

And have you visited Twitter lately?

The newly redesigned Twitter front page has two buttons: Search and Sign up now.

How useful are Twitter at providing search results?

A search for software marketing turns up an assorted mix of useless and poorly targeted results.

But Twitter is all about now and real-time searching.

I recently noticed that Facebook was slow, and wondered whether it was my system/connection or Facebook itself. A quick search for Facebook slow in Twitter showed me that hundreds of people had reported the same thing in the last few hours.

A similar search for AdWords slow reassured me a while ago. Not only were other people seeing the same problem, but I saw that it had only been slow for an hour or so.

Twitter have quietly turned the concept of real-time into a reality, making the likes of Google News suddenly look a little old in the tooth.

So why don’t Twitter have their own Toolbar?
