Technology is often used for purposes that the original designers could never have anticipated.

A Firefox user by the name of Fred Bosch is sick of reading about all the crises in the world. So he’s written an add-in that will substitute the word crisis with the word opportunity.

This expression will be replaced by “Opportunity”. Opportunity to see things differently. Opportunity to start again. Opportunity to review the rules. To create new formats. Opportunity to see the change that we’re all hopping for, while we should go out and get it.

So according to Fred’s outlook on the world, it’s un/fortunate that the swine flu opportunity coincided with the economic opportunity.

Hmmm.

The Advertising Lab blog was then inspired to write a Greasemonkey script that substitutes the word twitter (and all its derivatives) with madness.

It’s like one moment you have hundreds of canaries in your room, and then suddenly someone turns them all off.

It’s quieter, and everything makes a lot more sense, too.

New technology means that we no longer have to bury our heads in the sand. Our browsers can do it for us.
