I just changed my ads to read MySOL, which could be an appropriate description if they keep this up.

I was one of the small independent people directly affected see -- http://ronaldbradford.com/blog/hurting-the-little-guy-2009-03-16/

What is interesting is that I am a certified MySQL professional, my name is physically on the mysql.com site, however in reading the fine print with a colleague we discovered we are only allowed to use and promote the appropriate certified logo. We are not permitted to use the word MySQL.

MySQL trademark is rather strict, you can check out the fine print at http://www.mysql.com/about/legal/trademark.html

For those that are not plugged into the MySQL ecosystem, there has been a lot happening.

Former CEO gone.
Creator gone.
Drizzle a direct (future) competitor and MySQL fork is an internal product of the same company Sun.
Contention over the upcoming Annual conference next month. There are infact 3 conferences running at the same time, at the same location. That's a story itself.

While I don't know the content of the ads or the nature of the "violation" here I'm curious. Is this across the board for mentioning "mySQL"? If so that'd knock a number of webhost's ads on the head I should think if they promote mySQL, which can't be good for mySQL or Sun...?
